November 2022

Dear MASHMM Community,

As we approach Thanksgiving and the end of 2022, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the board of MASHMM for making this an exciting and rewarding year. We had a few stumbles coming out of the pandemic but overall, it has been a good year.

We were able to put on two in-person events including the one this Thursday, November 17th. I am very proud of all the hard work we have put in as a board and excited about the panel discussion as the topic of diversity and exclusion continues to be as relevant as it ever was.

I do not want to get too sentimental, so will keep it short. This has been a great year one of my Presidency and look forward to next year but we need you all. This great healthcare community, rich in history and knowledge is looking for Supply Chain folks to step up and be a part of the process.

Become a board member and see how rewarding it can be…..!

Lastly, I want to take this opportunity to extend Seasons Greetings and to thank again all our healthcare folks who day in and day out work in the trenches to support their hospital systems and each other. The success of our organization is built on the efforts of our board members and all of you…TOGETHER!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone

Dear MASHMM Community,

I would like to take a moment to show my appreciation for your continued support of the MASHMM organization over these past two years. Although it was a tough period for all, as an organization we have risen to be a stronger group and will forge forward with our upcoming program. With that said, I would like to thank Mark Steppling for all his hard work and to the board for their continued support as we look to 2022 and the exciting events we have planned.

Our Board is planning our first in-person event that we hope all will attend. This will be our time to get together, say hello to old friends and hopefully welcome new ones. We have a great program scheduled and we feel this will be a great way to let everyone know that MASHMM is back!

As the incoming President, with the board we have revamped our goals and want to continue to bring substantive programs to our supply chain community. With that said, let’s all get together, break bread and have a great first LIVE event that will set the tone for 2022. We would like to take this time to introduce a few new MASHMM Committee Chairs; Brandon Lock (Workday) who has taken the new Technology Committee Chair position & Kate O’Rourke (GHX) who has taken the Communications Committee Chair position. We are very excited to have Brandon and Kate on our team and look forward to their leadership in these critical committee roles.

March 2021

Hello friends and colleagues

I hope you have been able to stay safe and sane as this past year has come to a close and 2021 has come roaring into the spotlight. I would like to thank each and every one of you for the roles you play in supporting our communities as healthcare professionals.  2020 has helped me to see the power of healthcare supply chain in ways I never would have imagined.  As trying as this past year has been, I have never been more proud of the work that we do daily to protect and support those that care for the ill.

I am very excited to announce that MASHMM is the first AHRMM affiliate chapter to have successfully captured Diamond Status for 10 years in a row!! Our group received the first Diamond Chapter award in 2010 and has received this outstanding award for our educational programs every year since.  To continue this tradition, the MASHMM Board has been working hard to create relevant and interesting virtual learning opportunities and forum style discussions.  The first event of 2021 will be held virtually on April 29th at 6pm, and will be centered around the critical relationship between supply chain and emergency management teams to prepare for and manage emergency events and disasters. Details to follow but please mark your calendars now.

Additionally, we will be publishing a monthly newsletter to communicate upcoming events and to help to connect our community with job postings and relevant news.  Please send any feedback on the newsletter or ideas for future meeting topics to mashmmpresident@gmail.com.

I hope you continue to stay safe, and look forward to connecting with you all virtually

Best Regards,

Mark Steppling

Fall 2019

To the MASHMM Community (Current AND Future Members),

Thank you for the privilege to serve as your President for 2018-2019 term. MASHMM has been a long-standing and valuable component of my career and relationships here in the Mid-Atlantic region and I am honored to serve.

MASHMM is a professional networking association, but it’s so much more than that. MASHMM is an active community of engaged women and men at all stages of careers and life. Our organization is a shared space of friends and colleagues who actively work together to promote, expand and enhance the healthcare supply chain industry.

That type of cooperative, collaborative environment has never been more important. The long-standing climate of healthcare is being challenged, and that is a good thing.  It’s timely for us to question standard practice and be more creative. It’s helpful for us to revisit the principles of supply chain, value-based purchasing and re-establish the type of broad support that encourages further collaboration between clinicians, supply chain professionals and the vendor community while addressing real challenges, such as the need for skilled workforce development and recommitment to global value chains.

MASHMM provides this environment – where volunteers from the Mid- Atlantic region come together to address the most current issues and to provide education and engagement opportunities for all our members. MASHMM is a volunteer organization, we work because everyone works. We welcome ideas, engagement, commitment, and willingness to help build the organization.  If you want to be more involved, we welcome your participation.

Our year has been a busy one, but we look forward to making it even more interesting and fun!   MASHMM is hosting its annual event:

 October 10, 2019 – Dinner and Vendor Fair –

The vendor exhibition will be held from 5-6:30pm with dinner and speaker to follow. This year the topic of the evening is: “Healthcare Disrupters”.  The panel discussion will be moderated by Kenneth Grant, Sr. Our panelists include Jonathan Pumprey of WellSpan Health, Jim Churchman of MedStar Health, Pat Vizzard of University of Maryland Medical System, Talia Mauck of Adventist Health, Peter Saviola of Medline, Michael Casamassa and a special guest from Kaiser.

This program will address the concerns, challenges and opportunities that we face today with each new healthcare disrupter.

I hope that you will consider attending this major event and actively engage as a member of MASHMM.  Not a member? Please consider joining.  We want this to be YOUR welcoming shared space.

Given everything that is going on in healthcare supply chain, the need for constructive engagement and exchange is more important than ever, and I’m counting on your involvement. Challenging times are among the most interesting, creating opportunities and inspiring creative approaches to support each other.

I have been honored to serve as your President and look forward to seeing you at the last event of the year.

Thank you,

Kenyetta Keys, MBA – MASHMM President

Winter 2017

Greetings everyone,

I hope that each and every one of you had a great holiday season and that 2017 is off to a great start. We had another wonderful year as an organization and I hope that we continue our success for the upcoming year. As stated previously, we again achieved Diamond status, for the seventh year in a row and hope to make it eight years in 2017.

We do have a few positions on the Board that need to be filled. Specifally, we are still searching for someone to fill the President-Elect position. For me, this position has given me an opportunity to network more than I ever imagined, and be a leader amongst my fellow peers. I would strongly encourage you to contact me if you have even the slightest desire to be president of this prestigious chapter. Additionally, we will have positions opening for 2018 in Treasurer, Secretary, and some committee chairs.

This year we have decided to start a bit later and will have our first meeting on Friday, March 3rd at the Sheraton on the lakefront in Columbia. We will have our following meeting in early June. We will send out information on a place and time in the very near future. As a reminder, this year AHRMM will be held at the end of July in our Nation’s capital, so we will be seen as the host Chapter. I hope to see a large MASHMM attendance, as for most of us we will not have to worry about flight expenses. MASHMM plans to host a reception on one of the evenings for our members and guests.

On behalf of the Board we look forward to serving you in the New Year. We have a few exciting surprises planned and hope that you will enjoy the speakers, venues and camaraderie that comes with being a MASHMM member. And as always, if you have any ideas, questions, or concerns, please feel free to contact me or any other member of the Board.

Sincerely,

Christopher Holmes

Spring 2017

Greetings everyone and Happy Spring to all!

We had a great meeting in March. There were a lot of new faces at the last meeting and I hope to see them again soon. David Forbes from Mercy Medical Center gave a great presentation entitled “Own Your Own Contracts” and garnered a lot of positive feedback. We always encourage local presentations, especially from our MASHMM members, as it gives a personal and relatable understanding to current trends that we face in the healthcare industry.

The second MASHMM meeting for this year is scheduled on Friday, June 2nd. We will send out information on the place and time in the very near future. Our guest speaker for the event will be Mr. Anibar Basu, who has presented for us before. The title of his presentation is "Markets, He Wrote: Looking for Clues into the Economy's Direction." His presentation will provide detailed discussions of global, national and regional economies using the most up-to-date data available. As a reminder, we will be collecting gently used business attire at each of our meetings for Maryland New Directions as part of our chapter’s efforts to give back to the community. Please see the MASHMM Professional Clothing Drive flyer for additional information on our efforts.

As a reminder, this year’s AHRMM Annual Conference will be held July 23rd-26th in Washington, DC, so we will be seen as the host Chapter. I hope to see a large MASHMM attendance as most of us we will not have to worry about flight expenses. There is an early registration discount if you register by May 15th. If you are currently not an AHRMM member I would encourage you to join as it helps for us to retain our Platinum status and offers other benefits, opportunities and discounts for educational programs that MASHMM may not have.

On behalf of the board we look forward to continuing to bring you speakers, venues and the camaraderie that comes with being a MASHMM member. We still have a few positions on the Board that need to be filled. Specifically, we are still searching for someone to fill the President Elect position. Additionally we will have positions opening up for 2018 in Treasurer, Secretary and some committee chairs. I would strongly encourage you to contact me if you have even the slightest desire to be president of our prestigious chapter. And your ideas, questions, or concerns regarding MASHMM activities are always welcome so please feel free to contact me or any other member of the Board.

Sincerely,

Summer 2017

Greetings everyone!

We had a great meeting in early June in which Dr. Anirban Basu enthralled us with his presentation "Markets, He Wrote: Looking for Clues into the Economy's Direction." There was a great Q & A session that left most of us anxious and concerned about the future. We always encourage participation in our local presentations, especially from our MASHMM members, as it gives a personal and relatable understanding to current trends that we face in the healthcare industry.

As you know, this year’s AHRMM Annual Conference was held in Washington, D.C., and we were seen as the host Chapter. We are sure all who attended were moist appreciative of the educational events provided and the opportunities to meet with exhibitors to learn about their new offerings.

If you are currently not an AHRMM member, I would encourage you to join. Your membershipo in AHRMM helps us to retain our Platinum status and offers other benefits, opportunities, and discounts for additional educational programs and webinars that MASHMM may not have.

We will not meet again officially until our Annual Fall Dinner and Vendor Fair that will be held on October 5th at The Great Room at Historic Savage Mill in Ellicott City. There will be an opportunity to network with your Supply Chain peers, as well as to learn about new and exciting technology that our valued hospital vendors are offering.

Our event is sure to be another great one. Our program for the evening will feature John Pritchard, a MASHMM favorite, as well as Steve Patton from MedStar, and former AHRMM-chair Brent Petty. Please support this event- not only will the education be great, the venue is new and awesome!

As a reminder, we will be collecting gently used business attire at each of our meetings for Maryland New Directions as part of our chapter’s efforts to give back to the community. Please see the MASHMM Professional Clothing Drive flyer for additional information on our efforts. Please see the MASHMM Professional Clothing Drive flyer for additional information on our efforts.

Lastly, I ask that if have not paid your 2017 membership please send it in at your earliest convenience - we cannot continue to bring you great events and speakers without your support. Unfortunately, our reporting shows that we have many attending events this year without having paid their annual dues. On behalf of the board we look forward to continuing to bring you speakers, venues and the camaraderie that comes with being a MASHMM member. And your ideas, questions, or concerns regarding MASHMM activities are always welcome so please feel free to contact me or any other member of the Board.

Please have a safe and happy summer!

MASHMM President

Fall 2017

Hello everyone!

As the year is coming to a close, I wanted to thank you all for another successful year I want to send my most sincerest appreciation for allowing for me to serve as President of MASHMM for the last two years. The experience was like no other and I will always cherish the experience.

I also want to take this time to thank all of the members and vendors who attended this year’s Vendor Fair at Savage Mills. We had a great turn out as always, and everyone who came had a good time.

I would like to express my extreme gratitude and appreciation to all the Vendors who supported us this past year, and throughout the years. As you know, your financial support is vital in helping fund yearly activities that help provide necessary education to the organization’s members. That is why we always encourage members to come to attend meetings, and especially our Vendor Fair. Without your presence at our events, vendors will not see the continued necessity to sponsor if we have minimal participation.

Lastly, I want to thank all my Board members over the last two years. Each of you has been extremely helpful and necessary to our continued success. There is a ton of behind-the-scenes work that goes into planning and making sure that events and educational opportunities happen. Without such an effective Board, none of this would happen. With that said, MASHMM has a brand new Board that I would like to present at this time.

  • President: Kenyetta Keys (Doctors Community Health System)
  • President-Elect: Mark Steppling (MedStar Health)
  • Secretary: Jean Llewellyn (MedStar Health)
  • Treasurer: Andrew Gordon (Nixon Medical)
  • Education Committee Chair: Lisa Scholl (Centric Business Systems)
  • Communications Chair: Nicole Mazzei-Williams (TRIOSE)
  • Membership Chair: Iliana Stewart (CardinalHealth)
  • Vendor Liaison: Connie Wuerth (LexMark International)
  • Member at Large: Dick Perrin (Active Innovations)

For the future, I would encourage continued participation in the events, Board Membership, and being active with AHRMM as well. I understand that time can also be a factor as we all navigate through work- life balance but we as an organization are only as good as the members that drive us.

If you are currently not an AHRMM member, I encourage you to join. Your membershipo in AHRMM helps us retain our Platinum status and offers other benefits, opportunities, and discounts for additional educational programs and webinars that supplement the MASHMM educational programs.

I have greatly enjoyed my time being the President of MASHMM for the last two years and look forward to upcoming programs and networking opportunities in the future.

Thanks for your support and all the best for the holidays ahead!
